One of the most common joint diseases is arthrosis. The disease mainly affects the elderly.
What is knee osteoarthritis?
Arthrosis is a degenerative disease of the joints, which is associated with the gradual destruction of cartilage in the joints. The patient experienced severe pain in the joints, limited mobility. People like this are hard to move and hard to do regular homework. When cartilage wears out, the joint loses its ability to move.
The main symptoms are pain during certain activities:
- When climbing stairs.
- When lifting loads.
- While squatting.
- If you suddenly stop after a long walk.
The pain may worsen at bedtime, and swelling of the knee occurs at night. There may also be an accumulation of fluid in the joints.
Treatment at home
The consequence of complex treatment of arthrosis should be permanent remission. Complex therapy of arthrosis combines treatment with therapeutic training and physiotherapy.
The goal of arthrosis treatment is to eliminate the pain syndrome, and then the subsequent activation of cartilage tissue regeneration. During this period, drugs that contain chondroitin and glucosamine in its composition will be very helpful. These drugs can be used in the form of tablets, ointments, sprays. The duration of treatment can take a very long time, up to a year.
During exercise, movements are made that do not damage cartilage tissue, but help to recover.
All of the above only helps in the first stage of arthrosis. In the second and third stages, surgical intervention is required.
Medical treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee joint at home includes:
- Painkillers. Medicines for pain relief: tablets, ointments, sprays. Anesthetic tablets can also be used.
- Medications that relax the muscles. Drugs that promote muscle relaxation reduce cramps.
- Chondroprotectors - "prone protectors". These drugs are the basis for the treatment of arthrosis.
All medications must be prescribed by a doctor, you should not take them without a prescription, they all have contraindications.
Therapeutic training
Exercises should be selected by an orthopedic specialist, who will build on the specifics of the disease. The most effective exercises for arthrosis:
- Lie on your back, straighten your legs and relax. Exercise relieves stress, strengthens the pelvic muscles. Increases blood flow to the knee joint.
- Lie on your back, lift your legs perpendicular to your body, and press firmly to the floor. Move your feet into the air, mimicking cycling.
- Lying on your stomach, rotate your knees alternately. This exercise strengthens the leg muscles, activating metabolic processes in the knee joint.
- Someone sat on a chair and lifted his legs parallel to the floor. Thus, blood rises to the knee, increasing tissue regeneration in the joints.
The positive result of the above exercises is if you do them regularly. Preferably every day for 15 minutes, alternating with massage, physiotherapy.
To be able to engage in various sports, running, walking, it is better to use orthopedic knee braces, which reduce the load on the knee joint, treat arthrosis - warm it, have a magnetic pad that improves blood circulation. This is a necessary purchase for knee joint arthrosis.
For any arthrosis, you need to change your lifestyle and diet. For effective treatment, sugar, alcoholic beverages, spicy and fatty foods, chemical additives must be excluded from the menu. It is not recommended to starve, so as not to affect the supply of food to the joint cells.
